The historic bank building constructed in 1876 is highlighted by the Sullivanesque style architectural featuring the large arched windows, ornamental coins & polished marble pillars. Once inside, the casual, yet stylish décor incorporates The Vault’s focus on an ever-changing variety of beer, wine, and liquor selections, a simple yet tasty Wisconsin bar inspired menu, live music & entertainment, as well as 3 large screen high definition televisions to enjoy your favorite sports games.

The Vault

History

1876
Jones Bank established by H.R. Jones

1882
Fire of 1882: Fire started across the street
atthe California House. The 52 room hotel
was destroyed as well as two other hotels:
The Village House and the buildings next to
the Jones Bank.

1883
Jones Bank failed.

1884
Building was sold to Kellogg Banking
Company

1900
Kellogg Banking was succeeded by the State Bank of De Pere.

1904
New front was put on the State Bank of
De Pere - The front was designed by Green
Bay architect Henry Foeller utilizing the
Louis Sullivan Style. The Sullivanesque
style features the large arched window, ornamental coins, and three polished
marble pillars.

1934
State Bank of De Pere needed a larger place
to do business and purchased the National
Bank building.

1937
Fred Hendricks purchased the old state
bank. His business was the Zig Zag bar.

 

 

1945
One of the largest fires in De Pere destroyed
the Lee Building next door. The Zig Zag Bar
was made of stone and brick, and therefore
was spared.

1946
Fred Hendricks begins selling electrical
appliances.

1957
The Zig Zag Bar was sold to Ivan Mataya.
He kept the bar concept but changed the
name to Ivan's. After Ivan discontinued the
bar business, it went from one proprietor
to another.

1984
Joe Van Derzen purchased the building
and operated a successful restaurant
and lounge known as Ivan's

2000
Ivan's was purchased by Downtown
De Pere, LLC. The restaurant/lounge was
name My Place.

2003
De Pere native Colleen Wallace purchased
the restaurant and returned it to bearing
the Ivan's name.

2008
Jim and Juli Constine purchased the
building. While being mindful of the
historic architecture, they remodeled
and updated the restaurant/bar and
now operate it as: The Vault
